WonderFestival 2010 Winter Garage Kits

I think I’ve collected up enough photos now…

Surprisingly, there were quite a few good kits on show at this years event. A few of which I might even try to obtain at a later event. Unfortunately, buying a new kit right now would be an impossibility but I did get a few things from WF. Guess that’s something worth looking out for.
Overall, this years wonderfestival actually has me hopeful for the future. Looks like the GK scene has plenty of life left afterall!!

Tomopop has a large gallery of kits posted up already but for this blog entry, I’m going to focus on the kits which caught my personal interest.

Firstly, there were 3 which really caught my attention:

This number is called Kanu 2020 and it’s sculpted by Mr Surprise. Now, normally I hate Ikkitousen kits (unless it involves Ryofu Hosen) but when I first saw this over at Gamera Baenraes forum, I couldn’t take my eyes off it!
It pains me to say it, but I really do like this Kanu kit!! I’m hoping that he’ll sell it at the next event, which Gamera informs me will be Treasure Festa in May… Should be able to replenish my funds by then!

This Morrigan kit was made by ooxoo, who also did the taimanin Asagi kit I still need to make. Nothing too fancy about this kit, it simply feels right! Plus Morrigan has always been a fave character of mine since the old darkstalkers games. I have yet to find a Chun Li kit which captures the character and design as well as this Morrigan! (The Chun Li kit of her sitting down and eating a bun comes close tho)

Lastly, we have the SD Nazuna from Cerberus Project. I wasn’t too fussed on the non SD original when she was first released and I also lamented how Cerberus project seemed to be moving away from fixed pose GK and doing poseable action figures instead (tho they did do a Yamamoto sensei from Hanamaru Youchien) but this is just cool!

Those are the 3 which I liked the most but there are still others which deserve a mention. Hit the jump on even more GK goodness! (also, I got a request for some ero kits, so I put a couple in at the very end of this post. Consider this your NSFW warning!!)

My love for all things Sheryl Nome continues unabated, as does the sculptors inability to do a good face for her!! Seriously tho, if I had more funds and time, I’d buy this! Better than the Captain Slut costume everyone and their dogs continue to use!

One of my Golden rules of kit building states that I would only build female GK, and that still holds. But if I were to break it, this would sooo be the kit I would break it for. It’s Klein Sandman from Gravion!! KLEIN SANDMAN!!!!!!!! グランナイトスの諸君、合しんせいよ!!!! *Squee*

A really impressive Akiyuki X’amd and Haru from Bounen no X’amd. Shame that it would be really boring to paint…

Sharon/Sayo from Umineko no Naku Koro ni. I was quite disappointed by the end of that show… first half was pretty good tho.

Saki Morimi from Eden of the East. I think there was a Takizawa Akira one as well but I forgot where I saw it and didn’t grab the pic…

Asuka got to cosplay as Yoko so why not Rei? Personally, I prefer this one. Not only cos I’m a Rei fan but because I also prefer this Yoko costume!

Ishida Karin from Shangri-La. I posted her up in the preview as well but I do like this kit. Unlike Kumiko, I think the sculptor has done a really good job of sculpting the face this time while keeping the “range Murata” look.

Hachikuji Mayoi from Bakemonogatari. The second one was nearly a buy as well, but I’m not as big a fan of the character as others so I skipped.

There were also quite a lot of Senjogahara kits as well, but many had poorly sculpted faces.
I don’t see the popularity of Bakemonogatari falling anytime soon so hopefully, we’ll get to see better Senjogahara kits at future events.

Loli Nanoha from the first movie. And a pretty good kit to boot!

Another true sonic form adult Fate. Was tempted, but I already have a True sonic form Fate… but this one is really nice…

A better look at the figma conversion for Mahoro.

Asuza from K-on. Not interested at all but I bet she’s commanding quite a high price on the auctions right now!!!

Fumika from Shigofumi!! A proper look this time!!!!

A slightly blurry pic of Fuego from rideback!!

M.M from Kemeko DX.

Yotsuba and Fuuka in diving gear! I bet Gamera really loved this one.

Pocket fighters Chun Li. You know you want one too!!!

The summon monster for Mizuki Himeji from Baka to Test to Shokanjuu. I think there was originally meant to be an accompanying full sized Himeji to go as a pair but I haven’t seen it outside of the sculptors FG page.

[EDIT: I forgot to add this last kit up originally. ]

And finally, we have what appears to be an updated Volks KOS-MOS kit sporting a R-Blade instead of her usual gatling gun. I have absolutely no other info about this kit so if you know more about it, please share!! Hopefully, it’s just another set of parts which Volks will sell separately and we won’t be required to buy a whole new kit just for the new sword. And it’s also interesting to note that they painted this one with the Mary Magdeline Blue eyes!

That’s it for this Wonderfestival. I’m hopeful that I’ll see the kits I really like again at later events so I’ll try and snag them then, as opposed to going through places like E2046. But I have plenty to keep me occupied in the meantime…

If you want to see even more pics, you can try plus alpha, WFS21 and HK-DMZ for more pics.

I get the feeling I’m forgetting something tho…
And why the heck are you all shouting “ero”?
Oh fine…

God, I hope I don’t get into trouble for that last one…I think I hear the 4chan party van outside.

That’s definitely it from me. I need to take a long LONG shower now after that last pic… If you pervs want even more go knock yourself out here.
Probably not the best use of words there…

Sandoman!!! Ah all that gar in gravion and indeed, he will make an excellent male kit. (But I still prefer girl ^^) I really love that Rei cosplaying yoko, very beautiful!! Too bad I am not into building and painting GKs but at least I can enjoy it through your posts :D

What can I say? I try to please!
It’s also good for this niche hobby to get exposure for those who aren’t into it. If I can do that, then it’s all good! Who knows, maybe we’ll even get some converts!

You mean the volks 1/4 KOS-MOS with the R-blade? Well, yes and no. I didn’t put her up but I do know of it and I’m not trying really hard to get some kind of info on if it was for sale. Upped it now tho.

didn’t know kos-mos had blue eyes, thought there was only red and green..and that sword would prably boost this kit into the unreachable 70cm height!

        • At 2010.02.11 23:37, gundamjehutykai said:

Nope, her standard colour is red but they turn blue and she gets a significant power upgrade (and she acts human) when the spirit of Mary comes out.
Didn’t really take the height into consideration when I saw the pic. I just though “I want that” but you’re right!!

I know her eyes turns to that color when she gets serious, but I thought it was green(guess I was color blind, but then again I was prably 13ish when I played ep1 so I don’t remember that well so I’ll take your words for it. what was that spirit of mary again(did it had anything to do with xenogears?..don’t go xenobible tho, the story was pretty complicated

right! so when are you finishing your kos-mos? if the blade is sold separately maybe I can commission you to paint an extra huh:D

          • At 2010.02.12 14:35, gundamjehutykai said:

Nah, they turn blue. The spirit of mary was something which was supposedly needed for the final plan to work. Or rather, Mary herself was needed. KOS-MOS had her spirit and T-Elos had her body. Originally, the plan was for T-Elos to take the spirit from KOS-MOS but T-Elos lost so it was the other way around.
Basically, She (and everything else for that matter by the end of the series) had no link to Xenogears.

I’ve been talking to Johnson over on that new Google Buzz. He’s managed to dig out some info saying that the R-Blade version will be available for preorder at Hobby Round 3. But no other info at the moment. He thinks that it may be a pre-paint only deal tho. I’m going to contact volks and find out some more details before I post anything up.
But if it does come as a separate part, and you think my work is good enough, then I’d be happy to paint one up for you.

no link to xenogears…but I thought those games are based on a five volume book, with book five being xenogears and book 3-4 being ep3, in fact when xenosaga ep1 was announced there was news about how the games going to be in four eps but when it ended at ep3 people were talking about the company trying to cut budget and want to put a end to the end thus making book 3 and 4 into one game(or something like that).

anyways, pre-painted only would be kinda wired, cause the color might not fit with the rest of the kit, unless they sell the kit again..or even better, there gonna sell the pre-painted kos-mos as well lol And Yes! if the blades are sold separately unpainted, they maybe I can just sent you the money and proxy so you can get 2 sets from tokyohunter :D

Remember that XenoGEARS is still owned by Square-Enix so if any company wanted to connect their games to it, they would have to tread very carefully so S-E don’t sue their asses!
There were some hints and allusions to Gears in the first 2 games but by the 3rd, all the original Xenogears staff had left and Bandai-Namco just wanted the series to end so alot of ties which were alluded to were cut (tho they still borrowed some designs heavily) Like how Omega res novae is basically weltall, complete with system ID!!)
Firing off an email over to volks now. See if I can get some extra info from them before they put it up on their site!!

                  any news on kos-mos?

does that mean that the game plot is being altered dramatically compared to the original book and also the original plan of xenosaga and went off on its own path? eitherway its still an awesome, epic game!! loved the series and ep3 is my personal favor out of all three, even tho I can’t remember the story all that much anymore

Well, the perfect works book itself didn’t really get into any details as to what exactly happened. It just gave a rough overview. There were some connections by the end of Xenosaga tho. U-DO was pretty much a dead ringer for the wave existence in Xenogears and the Zohar emulators were just like those which originally powered the Omnigears, but the emulaters were removed as the final boss took them into itself.
Crucially, there was no hint of the final bad guy in Xenogears, Deus…
It’s not impossible to tie Xenosaga to Xenogears, but it wasn’t done by the 3 games so more media would be needed if you wanted to do that.

As for Volks, It’s a pretty long shot, to be honest. They haven’t even announced anything of the sort on their website yet. But I did email over the weekend and they usually take a few days so if any answer is to come, it whould be arriving in the next couple of days. I’ll post if I get anything. Otherwise, we’ll just have to wait for some official news.

no more reply button, guess I’ll just reply myself lol

I think..I’ll go replay xenosaga ep1 and xenogears, cause for some reason I don’t remember much of what you mentioned, except the final boss of ep1 fused with emulators, and also I think little fei showed up in the ending of ep1, playing with some woodblocks..funny I still have the perfect works book in my room somewhere, but in japanese I couldn’t understand scrap of it..need to find some translations.

well something is bound to happen in april so it won’t be too long of a wait, in fact if its going to be released in april I’d think they’ll announce the news much earlier, hopefully they’ll give you a reasonable response, maybe the one were hoping for

They used a LOT of Xenogears designs in Xenosaga but went to great lengths to make sure that you couldn’t link them to their Gears counterparts. The fei-like child is called abel and he is able to talk with U-Do. That’s probably the strongest link you’ll find between the 2 games. Elly also shows up as nephilim.

The only thing I can pick out from this KOS-MOS is that it’s something being available for pre-order on some event on 16/18th (can’t read from the small text) April this year. But this may not be accurate.

I understand how some people will not prefer to buy recasts from places like E2046 to respect the original sculptors, but I felt sometimes these kind of things are getting into the grey areas which I really don’t like getting into since there are a lot of moral issues and I am not good with them… I will just stick with gunpla, and the most extreme thing I will have will probably be a military model kit, but that’s it.

That’s pretty much all we’ve managed to dig up so far. The event in question will be Hobby Round 3 but no word on pricing, prepainted or kit only or if we will need to buy the whole kit just to get the R-Blade. I am NOT spending that much on another KOS-MOS!

As for the whole Recast thing, I must admit that my moral compass doesn’t really account for much. Supporting the original sculptor is good and all but it’s not at the forefront of my mind when I buy one. It’s more to do with how I have consistantly found that Original kits are simply easier to work with than recasts. The cleanup time for Originals are usually far shorter than for recasts (Sheryl was an exception) and there’s less of an issue of variable quality for the kit in general. I’m not worried that some details may be done badly for example. I would only go for a recast if I have either exhausted all other options or if I really don’t care much for the kit but think it might be interesting (which then begs the question why I’m buying it in the first place) Those are my practical reasons for going original, that and to avoid the beatings I would get from Johnson if he ever found out…
That’s why I leave GK builders to decide for themselves.
