WonderFestival Winter 2010 Preview

With wonderfestival set to occur this weekend, I’m preparing myself for my usual custom of going through large numbers of Japanese sites for event coverage and pics to pick out some of the kits which stand out to me.

Johnson Huang over at Garage Kit Haven has already written up a few posts regarding kits which have caught his eye so here are some which have done the same to me over at the FG boards. Luckily for me, however, these haven’t quite hit “Must get” status for myself. Though that doesn’t mean that I won’t be buying anything from the event. Curious about what I’m going to get? Well, you’ll just have to wait a little while.

Johnsons list is dominated by Touhou kits and they seem to be out in full force this year again but I’ve never found myself particularly drawn to them. My list is dominated by Bakemonogatari kits, specifically of Senjogahara Hitagi. She seems to be a rather popular choice for sculptors this time round. I only counted 3 Hachikuji kits and 1 Kanbaru. I think nadeko had one too…

Anyway, here’s a few kits which caught my eye.

Bakemonogatari

Senjogahara Hitagi

Another Senjogahara

Last Senjogahara kit (for now)

Hachikuji Mayoi

Rideback

Fuego (last seen in Summer WF 09)

Mahoromatic

Custom Figma parts for Mahoro (have no idea how this works!!)

Deathsmiles

Casper. An older kit I believe, and I would have preferred Rosa but I just simply love deathsmiles. Best shmup I’ve played in a while!!

Black Lagoon

Revy. Would have been an amazing kit of the sculptor gave it an evil smile expression instead of a frown but it’s still pretty good.

Kampfer

Sango Shizuku. The student council President and the next kit from Hihumi, who gave me Sheryl Nome!!

Shangri La

Ishida Karin. Was I the only person who actually liked the majority of Shangri-la? Or was everyone put off by all the financial talk and how countries fell without any physical evidence?

Original

Samurai Girl by Cerberus project. A non-SD figure by Cerberus project was their first venture into making a poseable figure. It was quite good as well, very detailed and cast off-able. But this SD number is too damn cute! Armour is removable here as well!!

And that’s all that has caught my attention over at the FG boards. I’m sure that there will be plenty more once pics of the actual event surface so we’ll see when i write them up next week.
Hopefully, I would have finished mass effect 2 by then. Doubt I’ll write a review of it tho. It’s really hard to write about. For starters, I’m not sure I would even class it as an RPG! To me, it’s more like a 3rd person shooter with RPG elements. Bioware may have said that the JRPG is stagnant but at least they have an identity.
Still a pretty good game tho.

All images can be found on the FG boards (account required)

    HNGH SENJOUGAHARA HITAGI HNGH

Also WTF, Karin kit. I was fine with Shangri-la until the lousy Gonzo ending as usual, but I predicted it rofl.

Nazuna is back in a smaller but still kickass form. Nice. Not interested in getting any of these except maybe Hitagi but still…

Believe me, there will probably be quite a lot of Senjogahara kits this weekend… I wouldn’t be surprised if some hit the ridiculous prices set by Mio last wonfest on the auction scene!
But since these aren’t coloured, it’s too early to tell if they’re really great or not.

Not a problem mate. 1 person can’t do it all afterall!
Heck, since it’s me, I ignored all the touhou stuff. Just not my thing.

I wasn’t that impressed when I first saw the more well proportioned original but this one really was disgustingly cute!!
But I think it would lose a lot if it was nendofied, with those stubs for limbs and whatnot.

Custom mahoro looks pretty legit, great job by the modeler and FEUGO!!!

I was really amazed by the Mahoro as well. The sculptor has also done a great Fate T Harlawn in True sonic form and Ginga Nakajima (Subaru’s sister). Fuego was also accompanied by the “gorilla” rideback as well, but that one didn’t look as cool!

Ah, but since you have confessed to have built your own GK before, you *could* get one and do it up yourself. We all know you can now!!

Well, I wrote something brief over at tomopop for the company stuff, but I’ll give it a day or so before picking up on the resin kit stuff. It’s much bigger and more varied so it’s not wise to keep to just 1 or 2 sources, tho moeyo and Dengeki already have something up on the GK side of things.

I don’t know but I REALLY want to know!!!

I can’t find anything about it on the volks website so it may be a one-off custom part. I just hope that they sell it separately… She’ll be in this weeks post as well so maybe some of the other readers may know more…

that..or a release with a different weapon, and I fear its the later. whats that hobby round premium label behind it, perhaps there gonna be milking money off the next hobby round :? damn volks up to no good

                          Please don’t jinx it! ^^’
Generally, volks will show off any new kit with changes. Even if they are minor like those 2 toushin toushi 3 kits. Just their heads and weapon were different but they marketed them as separate kits.
Not sure about the premium sticker tho. Maybe they only plan to offer it to paid up members of the volks loyalty scheme. Which would also be annoying but less so.

Hey Gundam, congratz into getting into the Tomopop team!!
Also, the crab Senjougahara is the cutest thing ever. To tell the truth, I just realized the connection between crabs and staplers now, fail me OTL

Thanks Fychan. Tho perhaps joining on the weekend of wonderfestival wasn’t the smartest move…
Should be interesting to see how I manage to balance writing for tomopop and still manage to do everything else but I’m sure I’ll be fine. Looking at all the GK pics from WF. The Bakemonogatari presence isn’t as strong as the previews suggested, but that’s prob cos nobody took pics…
