Project: Galaxy (part 1)

I know you’re all waiting for me to start work on my volks KOSMOS but, unfortunately, until I get the replacement parts needed to complete her, she’s in cold storage!

which means I can try and focus attention on my current project, which was on hiatus until a few weeks ago due to my wrist injury. I posted her up way back in september but here she is again, Sheryl Nome!!!

A wonderful sculpt which was on sale back at wonderfestival. It’s a shame that, after last weeks post, there’s a slight feeling that she’s more like a support group as opposed to the main feature she really is!!

Work started in earnest a few weeks ago but hit full steam recently with lots (and I mean LOTS) of cleanup and pinning required for this number. As I said in my previous post back in September, the parts are not in exactly ideal condition, hence the large amounts of green putty.

This time, however, I was able to do a complete build, including the ridiculously oversized bow and ribbons on the back of the figure. More astute readers will also recognise the Event exclusive Sheryl Nome base I’m using on this kit as well. I’ve placed some magnets onto the underside of the base and placed more magnets on the feet of the kit. It seems to be strong enough to hold the kit up on it’s own without the bow, but with the large bow, it’s giving me all kinds of headaches in terms of balancing. And I don’t think the more traditional metal rod pinning will make any difference in this case!! Besides, I would rather not damage my base if at all possible. It is event exclusive afterall!!!

A little closeup shows more of the green putty. It goes pretty much everywhere due to the massive number of pinholes already visible and the fact that the parts fit isn’t 100% great.

A shot of Sheryl without the bow. You can see that she’s pretty stable without it. The fact that I had to use a 3mm rod to connect the bow to the back kinda tells you just how much weight the thing carries. Anything smaller would have simply bent due to the weight!!

The most annoying aspect is that the part of the bow which reaches out in front can actually reach the floor so it can be used to support the model somewhat, but the main back section does not! and that’s where all the weight it!! A part of me wants to just ignore the bow and do up the rest of the model as it is but then it loses something in the process.

And if you needed any proof as to just how much work is required for cleanup? I can’t think of a better one than this!

Putty will be needed to fill the gap between the 2 parts which are held together by 3 brass rods and the massive crater will also need to be filled. The blatant seam line will also need to be sanded down. Luckily, the copious amounts of flash have already been removed!!

Nevertheless, Sheryl is nearly done in terms of preparations. It shouldn’t be too long before she’s ready for base coating and painting, esp at this rate… Or at least that’s what I would like to say. Things may get a little busy with various things soon so work on her may slow down. I’ve got a new work schedule to accomodate, Christmas preparations to get on with, Life issues… Oh who am I kidding?? I, like most of the gaming population, will be playing this!!!

I was tempted to write a review of it for this weeks post, but decided that I needed more than 1 days (extensive) playtime to get a fair and accurate feeling for the game. Maybe next week…

As for KOSMOS, I have been told that the parts have been ordered, so it’s just a matter of waiting, but if you’re the really impatient kind, fellow collector, Lee recently contacted me about his recent Yahoo Japan Auctions purchase!!

prepainted KOSMOS

Yup, He bought a custom painted KOSMOS figure! And to prevent the possibilty of any mental damage to readers, I’ll kindly refrain from saying the cost of said item.
Personally, I love the details and effects used on the kit, but I’m not so keen on the colourscheme. But that’s just me. I’m sure none of us would complain about owning this little number afterall! Congrats to Lee for his ultra cool (and really REALLY expensive) purchase!!

And all that’s left is to patiently wait for Lee to upload some pics when it arrives on his doorstep!

O_o custom paint with such detail… + the power of auction… perhaps it could be x 5 of the original price ^___^. I don’t really like the shirt’s glossy effect and the purple tone. A very light blue as shadow and semi gloss for the shirt area will be perfect!

      Ah, Someone who (sorta) understands!!!
And luckily, the price wasn’t as bad as 5x the original. That would have made it, what? 250,000 yen??

I have my own preferences for colour and purple as shadow definitely not my style.

      250,000 yen O___O that’s the price for 10 Fewture Getters…

Or just over 3 Perfect change Dangaiohs from Studio halfeye! good thing it doesn’t cost that much! but I think I could get just under 2 for the cost.

OMG android pasties. That is awesome. Sheryl looks nice too but I saw android pasties and pretty much all other thoughts left my brains.

Pasties? They looks more like Chinese meat buns to me. Wait, I’m getting flashbacks to Macross F…

Ah yes, there’s a foodstuff in British cuisine called a pasty, right? Cornish pasties I have heard of (here in America, we call such things Hot Pockets XD). But I refer to pasties of a more delectable yet less tasty sort.

Indeed, Britain is the home of the the cuisine which bears such names. all in various shapes as well. still, pasties perhaps lack a certain “elegance” to describe certain parts of this android. Pasties aren’t particularly filling either in most cases!

I never build a figure before, but that is one huge ass crack you got there! Involves even more work compare to gunpla from the looks of it!

Still can’t wait to see you finish up our favorite Space Songstress of the moment ^^

Garage kits in general require more work than gunpla but Sheryl is an exception in that she requires quite an extreme amount of extra effort. But this one is still one of the best sculpts I have seen and in one of my fave costumes as well, so I’m willing to go the extra miles on top of the required extras for this one!!
