Sept & Oct Purchases!!

This post is going to be a bit on the long side so I suggest you take a seat and maybe grab a drink to pass the time. All done? right! Let’s begin!

Due to some logistical errors (blame royal mail) there wasn’t much which arrived in the month of September, even though around 1/3rd of what was ordered was expected, so I decided to combine the 2 into 1 big post. So here’s what I bought in the past 2 months.

A bit of a step up from the usual and ridiculously expensive to boot!! Thanks to this lot, I don’t think I’ll be buying any new stuff for the next few months, aside from that which has already been preordered. So that leaves The bayonetta artbook, Otacool (which should be arriving any day now), Figma Aegis (again, on it’s way), Sheryl Nome NA edition, Nendoroid Drossel (My first and possibly only nendo purchase. Exelica came with the game I wanted!)  and maybe Nanoha Exceed mode, if she actually gets released in 2009!!

But for now, lets take a closer look!

First, we have the slightly less interesting stuff. The PVC figures and Hoihoi, who I preordered as soon as it was announced!! I haven’t built Hoihoi yet, but I am amazed by some of the mods which have popped up already. I’ve seen HoiHoi Saber, Shana and Ryomou Shimei (Ikkitousen) to name a few!! Unfortunately, Hoihoi got “royal Mail’d” and got slapped with a customs charge of £11 Just to put things into perspective, Hoihoi is worth £20 and the VAT is around £3. The rest of the charge was the Royal mail handling charge!!!!
I was livid!!! The only thing which stopped me from making an official complaint was the fact that Saber lily, which was more expensive and held a more expensive charge, got away scott free. So I just took it down as some kind of karmic balance. (plus being charged for hoihoi was cheaper than being charged for saber).
Combat-San is supposedly due for release next year. I’m so getting one of her!!!

One purchase I forgot to put into the above pic is my Revoltech Reycal! I finally got her!!!!!
Here she is posing with my modelling knife and her armour howl next to Hoihoi. (the joke about the pose will be lost on you unless you’ve read the first chapter of the manga!)

And here are the ladies. I was on the fence for Sheryl for a long time but caved in at the last minute due to my love of the character. My experiences with Megahouse haven’t healed yet so that was another cause for concern but it looks like they sorted the paint removing issue at least, tho they still don’t add instructions for the castoff!!
Saber lily was actually an accident. I must have gotten swept up by the chatter about her when she was first announced and preordered her many months ago. I then forgot about the order due to the number of delays and didn’t know I still had her on order until I was sent an email by HLJ saying that she was shipped!! oops!
Still, She is rather impressive, tho I have to somewhat agree with Tommy in that the pose, while dynamic, doesn’t lend itself well topics at multiple angles. I was thinking about selling her on as I’m sure that there are people who missed out and are more than willing to part with their cash for her, but I changed my mind as I have something I want to try. Not sure what her resale value will be afterwards…

Next, we’re onto the cool(er) stuff!

First up, we have my Replicant works vol 5, which I bought from HLJ when they were doing their free shipping deal. It’s always fun to see the kits of yesteryear!
And on the left we have the original MS Girls artbook!!! I bought this from fellow figure.fm member, Radiant when he was selling it on the site. As soon as I saw it, I pounced on it so quickly that even Ussain Bolt  would have trouble keeping up!! I’ve had the scans for the longest time but having the physical book is something else! Thanks Radiant!!!

Next up, we have my only purchases to have arrived in September!! (Sheryl and Reycal were due but they didn’t arrive till early October). This is my event exclusive loot from Chara Hobby way back in August!
I bought them using Tokyo Hunter and I would whole heartedly recommend the service. Joseph (the guy who runs it) is a really cool and friendly dude and the service is honest and prompt. Sure, you do end up paying a little more than the items value but you’re asking him to wake up early and queue up for you so I think it’s a fair trade!!!

His service doesn’t encompass everything (no auctions for example) but if you’re looking for an event or mailorder exclusive item on sale in Japan, go for Tokyo Hunter!
But back to the items.

This is the Fighters Special VF-25 Alto version. Pretty dull, all things considered.

Here’s what you get. It’s a deceptive little thing as it’s just the fighter. No transformation gimmick or other neat stuff. This is it. It’s deceptive because there are lots of little gaps in specific areas which suggest that it could actually transform, but if you tried, you would just break it. Truth be told, I wasn’t interested in the Jet, I wanted what came with it!!!

The limited edition Sheryl Nome display base!!! woohoo!!! Yes, there was a Ranka version as well, but who cares about that one? I’m thinking of using this as the base for my Sheryl Nome GK I’m working on but I’m undecided at this point. but it still looks awesome!! (yes, I have a thing for Sheryl Nome).

My final purchase from Chara Hobby was…

Need I say more? All together now…

And finally, we have…

Yes, that non-descriptive box is an item as well. This was my last purchases in October and the reason for my spending freeze. But they are too awesome for this post, so I’m giving them one all to themselves. You can find it here!

And just for the heck of it, here’s the tower of shipping boxes which arrived within 1 week!

If that’s not a good reminder to always recycle, I don’t know what is!!!!

Woohoo! It arrived in good condition! Glad it was something that you’ve been looking for! ^_^

Quite the loot there. No wonder you said you ran out of money! :)

Indeed. :P Going to take a while before I recover from this lot. But I haven’t cancelled any preorders I already made so it could be worse…

Sometimes I complain about the US Postal Service, but reading what people in other countries sometimes go through with packages sent from overseas, I’m thinking I have it pretty good. I order something from Japan, it gets flown to New York and then it arrives at my door. I have no idea what a value-added tax is supposed to be or what the customs service does.

I really have to make some time to watch Macross Frontier; I like Sheryl’s character design but I don’t know a thing about her.

Basically, customs in the UK are able to stop any item being sent in and check it’s contents. If its value is over £18 (Hoihoi was £20) then they can charge VAT onto the item at 15% of the value. They then slap on an additional “handling charge” which, together with the VAT makes the customs charge and that’s what we have to pay. Basically, that’s all customs does. They make sure that stuff being imported in isn’t illegal and tax the items which are able to be sent through.
EMS shipping from japan almost always gets hit but SAL is less often.

And I really do love Sheryl Nome. If there was any character which could make me buy a dollfie, it’s probably Sheryl, tho Feito did come really close…

Don’t we all have a thing for Sheryl? Even those who “doesn’t like her”, and prefers Ranka, have a thing for her. They’re just closet Sheryl lovers!!

Truth be told, I wasn’t interested in the Jet, I wanted what came with it!!!

This reminds me of Konata…we are suckers for limited editions!

You betcha!! I’m seriously looking at getting the Basquash Dangan with Sheryl Nome NoseArt. Didn’t think the show was that good and dangan is pretty naff but still…

And Sheryl was one of the best things about Macross F! The ladies stack up Sheryl>>>Klein Klan>Cathy>>>>>>The rest!!

Back in my ebay days I somehow always managed to avoid custom charges. Maybe that’s due to the fact that the panzers I’ve bought were usually very small so they didn’t care much about them. Ah yes in addition to the custom charges the Royal Mail is ALWAYS on strike; they’re never satisfied afterall I suppose…

And yay I finally get to see your Reycal! And you got to pose her with an art knife too~ Looking forward to see a review of her if you have time! Btw I see two bases there – where does the other one belong to?

The only thing I’m certain will not be charged are any books/magazines I buy. Otherwise it seems everything is game… And it’s not like they’re consistant either! Hoihoi gets charged but saber lily doesn’t?

Reycal should be up in a few weeks or so. She’s really fun but has a few design annoyances, like the damn neck!! As for the base, luckily all revoltech bases are interchangeable so I just “borrowed” one from another figure I own, Dangaioh in this case.
